And in RoS there’s a thousand Star Destroyers copy-and-pasted across the screen and they ALL have Death Star-level cannons on them because he confuses bigger with stakes.

Yeah, Civil War is an odd example to use being as it’s clearly set after Ant-Man (and all of Phase 2) and, as well as setting up the status quo of Phase 3, specifically sets up Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Panther and Ant-Man and the Wasp (as well as Infinity War/Endgame of course).
Sure but a quick check to see if it’s previously been confirmed seems the first logical (and quick) step before chasing a primary source. I’m not suggesting they base it on anonymous Reddit rumours.
It was confirmed after his death that he'd recorded material for the show. Not sure why A.V. Club are reaching out to Disney instead of maybe Googling.
“Snyder says he started developing this idea as a “more mature take” on Star Wars a decade ago”
With muted colour tones! And Leonard Cohen!
You’re not the first person who’s said that to me. It makes sense that the brain would try and delete it. But here it is! (Apart from the “Nah, it’s real and he knows because he’s linked to the alien’s mind” reveal)
Well she is an unmarried human female struggling to succeed in a human male’s world.
Do you remember when the sequel started with the President’s speech from the first film being transmitted into space and you watch it go all through space and then it’s on the TV that the king alien is watching and he gets angry at the President’s speech and you think “What the fuck is this?” and then the President…
Just wanted to reply to this nine year old comment to say I read this reply last year (I’d just rewatched The Prestige) and have since read The Affirmation and am nearly done with Inverted World. Added both to my to-read list based on your recommendations and have enjoyed them a huge amount - so thanks!
Same here! I’ll often watch an older film and come here to see if there was a good, meaty AV Club review or article on it and see the hundreds of replies they’d have and the amount of debate and discussion that happened. Miss those days.
Just replying to say that at least one person read it! I disagree (I thought the film was great and bought them as a couple) but I enjoyed reading your take.
Et tu, Dan Aykroyd?
Let’s not forget Vin’s prediction for Fast & Furious 7:
Clocking in nearly two years later (I’m late to the Succession party) but Project Zeus is creator Jesse Armstrong production company and is named in reference to an episode of his old sitcom Peep Show. There, the overblown nature of Project Zeus’s title was part of the joke of a task the main character had been given…
I don't mind about the old man. Morpheus points out to Neo that what he perceives at someone's physical attributes count for shit in the matrix.
I’d have raised an eyebrow at the Oscar nominations but by 2012 he was already being positioned as a star (he'd done two Hangovers by then) so the franchise stuff I could buy. Hell, 2012 was the year of Silver Linings Playbook so you might want to go further back a couple of years to get the full shock value of the…
This is an interesting perspective and I appreciate this look at it (I really do, even if I’m about to spend two columns picking out one line in your piece) but I don’t think Breihan not covering it means he’s not qualified to write the piece. He just looked at it from a different angle. This piece wasn’t about every…
I hated it! Can’t remember why (it was six years ago but I recall it being incredibly clichéd) but I remember ranting about how bad it was afterwards. Looking back on my yearly lists I put it as the second worst film of 2015 - worse than Taken 3, Terminator: Genysis and 59 Shades and only less worse than the risible…
I’m lukewarm on Ready Player One (The Shining segment is pretty good though) but The Post is great. And Bridge of Spies is only a couple of movies ago for him.
