I agree with you about this type of humor with SNL, most notoriously seen with Gen Z Hospital last season. One of the reasons I enjoyed the tiktok piece is because I didn’t think they were mocking or trying to pander as much this time - I felt like they were just trying to show a day in the life of a kid looking

Golden Girls was kind of revolutionary in its time because it showed women in their 50's and 60's who had lives, though. They had social lives, dated, even slept around, which would have been almost unheard of un pop culture prior to that. In 1985, The Golden Girls would have been considered youthful compared to

NBC doesn’t want to reboot The Office. They want 2005 broadcast ratings back, and somehow they’re stupid enough to think the first thing would give them the second thing.

They could always do a reunion skit a-la Curb/Seinfeld just to let their fans know wasup.  No need to potentially wreck the legacy of a classic series.

My hunch is that this version will feature Negro League players.  I don’t know in what way, but making a show about the abject stupidity and injustice of segregation era baseball feels like a thing Schur would do.

From Good Wife come Diane, her husband, Luca, Marissa (Eli’s daughter), David Lee, various judges and some clients.
I really think you should watch the Good Fight. Definitely better than the last 2 seasons of Good Wife.

RI should have been coffee milk.

There was something weird at the beginning of the show too when it looked like they were coming out of a commercial break only to show a random band member for a second and then another commercial break. It was like they had a skit all lined up, then changed their minds at the last second and needed more time to set

Steve Forbes hosted back in the ‘90s.  I think a few other “alternative candidates” who never held office (I think Ralph Nader may have made an appearance?) did as well, but it’s certainly rare for a non-entertainer to land the gig.

Yeah, most of the credit goes to Greg Daniels. But I think it’s fair to say he wrote some fantastic episodes during his time on the show.

I never understood why the show thought we cared so much about Stabler’s wife and kids”

There’s more categories than white and non-white though, and non-white groups aren’t interchangeable. This is a specifically Aghan role, no? This isn’t one of those open roles, or just a loose one. I bet when Kalyan invariably messes up the pronunciation of some Pashto an Afghan American family that’s watching will

He’s great in WHAS (the movie and the prequel / sequel seasons of the TV show). And yea - his performance is nothing like Stabler.

He was good in Happy! where he played, you guessed it, Stabler if he followed the expected path in his retirement (I.e. mercenary work and lots of self medicating).

The context is the actual hiring practices in American culture, where yes, actors are hired to act and should be able to take on any role they can be convincing in—but the arbiter of convincing has always been white culture, and often the line has actually been only convincing to the dominant culture. If there was

But, of course, the writer was complaining that they *chose* an actor of South Asian descent, haha!

Defintiely got that, was just curious what “nice” meant in this context. But yeah, seriously, what a weird instinct. I love that Eleanor is *very*, arguably too, aware of her hotness.

I don’t know, sounds like a joke made by a decent comedian (so not Leno).

Absolutely. Granted it is not an every day sort of thing. I grew up with a full breakfast every Sunday after church, cooked by my off the boat grandfather. That approach seems pretty common, the cousins in Dublin do the same. And they used to send us an Irish breakfast package from Galtee every year for Thanksgiving.

Corned beef and Cabbage is an Irish-American dish. They don’t really eat much Corned beef in Ireland. Bacon (rashers) and cabbage is a really popular dish there though.
