Also you saw how careful the staging was so the little kid actor didn’t actually see anything going on in the main part of the sketch.

Lizzo is talentless? Seriously?

OK but “Tinder boy” kind of worked given the sketch.

They’ve always done game shows. Kenan is good at doing host stuff, straight man without being boring. I don’t mind. That was probably the strongest sketch of the night.

The funniest part was the guy was 27. I don’t mind this as a recurring bit. There’s no real joke but at least the huge, bloated, cast gets to do character work and it doesn’t have the usual SNL problem of not knowing how to end a sketch.

She’s not even the first singer to do double duty in an episode this year. Non-actors have always hosted. She wasn’t especially bad. She did a better job than Kim Kardashian and she didn’t mind looking bad. She got into it and took it seriously.

I’m the only person that liked Alec Baldwin’s Trump. The problem isn’t the impression, it’s that the show has nothing to say about him. They actually had the same problem with Obama. Without any comic POV, it’s just dull.

She’s never been a great impressionist and it’s weird the show has her do so many of them. Same with Aidy Bryant on both counts. Those two are all-time great but there’s a reason Lorne used to kick people out after 7 years.

OK but Jimmy Dugan is RIGHT THERE and his most iconic character.

Huh.

The Oscars should feel like a glamorous party the wittiest, coolest, people are invited to and you can watch. So keep the funny hosts. Keep the funny presenters, but make them entertaining. Assume everyone wants to hear a sound effects editor thank his mom. Assume sometimes the sound effects editor will go off script,

The doll one was hilarious! Mikey and Cecily kept going over the top and adding to it. Not just reacting. I don’t know why Mikey is always straight man when he can be funny.

Funny how tastes differ. That was the only one I really didn’t like. It was basic cringe that went on too long, with a really weird, everyone not from New York is a stupid hick overlay that added nothing to the joke. SNL used to make that same joke all the time in the early 2000s and Kristen Wiig eras and I was glad

I liked it. Body horror is funny and the clueless mortuary guys are funny. I love that Jarrod actually got to play funny parts. Still mad Simu Liu had to just stand there.

I did too, except for the all-time bad sketch with Kyle Mooney as country mouse idiot. A “New Yorkers making fun of the dumb hicks they think the rest of the country is”, complete with the same outfit George wore on Seinfeld in that one episode? Combined with Kyle Mooney playing awkward guy? Next episode should have a

OK but that wasn’t actually Greta Gerwig. And Amy Schumer didn’t write or direct I Feel Pretty. She was a hired gun.

I remember reading Chris Columbus auditioned actors in part by looking at their home lives. It’s why all three of them were able to avoid falling into the child star trap.

Lorne Michaels used to fire cast members after 7 seasons. Even when they were the big stars. And he didn’t let people take weeks off to do their own things.

I think the complaint was the meta-ness of the sketch. It’s about Chloe, using her real name. The show’s done a lot of “backstage” sketches the past few years. Some are funny, most are meh. It does have a feel on trying to impress how cool and fun SNL is to work, all the gorgeous, fun, creative people, inside jokes,
