None of the other Mario RPG games captured the tone of Super Mario RPG.

SMRPG had this sense of wonder with a touch of melancholy and pure Squaresoft insanity, in the world of Mario. Superstar Saga and Paper Mario had this more comedic/slapstick tone that didn't match SMRPG's. The non-SMRPG games felt more geared

What makes true Mario RPG special, in my opinion, is that it's an actual JRPG that just happens to feature Mario and pals. Sure it had what I consider some groundbreaking mechanics such as turn-based battles with button presses, and it was rife with humor and satire, but at its core was an RPG with classic stats,

Those are great games and I don't want to gloss over that. I just REALLY liked Super Mario RPG.

Super Mario RPG had a much more fun and engaging story with great gameplay and set pieces that I don't feel has been topped by any of the subsequent games as good as they are individually.

They probably mean that particular world and it's characters, not simply the gameplay.

All this does is make me want a true sequel to Super MaRPGio even more.

Any time people mention Super Mario RPG, I get really sad we'll never see a proper sequel because a collab between Nintendo and Square for that purpose just seems really far-fetched.
