Just move all of your kid's stuff out of his room and make him pay for everything to the rest of the family, all of whom are now actors in this elaborate ruse.

I found that putting my kids on a weekly allowance had an interesting effect. They no longer looked at items as having a 'dollar' value. Instead, it was a 'week' value. Seeing that a toy was worth three weeks of their allowance rubbed the shine off of it. It was no longer as awesome.
