As a rule I don’t think it matters how someone Jewish was raised, but in her case I prefer to think that the fact that she was raised as a Mormon means she doesn’t count as one of us!

Back then, transgender people were told that the only way to transition was to forget that your family ever existed, and cut off contact with them, both to avoid being “outed” and to spare them the shame of having a transgender relative.
