The spores were always kinda stupid so the changes they made for the show have worked for me. But YMMV of course.

The whole memo lately seems to be to act extra about things on the internet. Look at the reaction to Avatar.
Incredibly it is correct - the feel, the look, the sound of the show are taken straight from the games (which to be fair have some of the very best production design in all gaming). Stuff like how the infection works are minor mechanical elements and nothing to do with character or story or setting.
A lot of companies do this but it’s more on the down-low. Often managers are given a small number of high ratings to give to their team, based usually on budget since ratings impact raises and other compensation. Then in manager-only meetings they divvy up the few (some years zero) high ratings like playing cards. So…
‘If everybody is hitting the work quota, nobody is hitting the work quota.’
Have you visited Metacritic or Rotten Tomatoes, my hot-take-loving friend? Have you seen the practically UNPRECEDENTED reviews from hundreds of critics and thousands of fans, mostly all agreeing the show is phenomenal? Murder porn is not a financially lucrative genre to spin such an expensive tv show around. I get…
The key difference being that Sony has been a well oiled production machine for a while now, while Spencer inhereted Mattrick and Harrison’s best attempts to ruin the Xbox franchise forever. That takes a lot more undoing before you can even really begin heading in a good direction.
I don’t think you have a really good grasp on how long term video game development is, and how when something gets messed up it takes an absolute age to fix. You can track this across many many large studios and publishers, the work of correcting a course that was set for the wrong direction takes forever in this…
very this. i thought nioh was tight but team ninja really refined the gameplay mechanics in nioh 2 to make something challenging yet somewhat accessible. i think the studio has done the same thing here with wo long: fallen dynasty and tbh it seems like this game may be the soulslike of 2023 - so far anyway.
there’s some cool storytelling going on in wo long: fallen dynasty i think you’ll like if you enjoy historical fiction. on top of that, you can summon prominent figures, like guan yu and zhou yun, to aid you in battle which is pretty dope imo
Seems weird to compare it more to Souls and Sekiro than to Nioh, given that... Y’know, they made Nioh. There was a posture meter in Nioh, after all: It was called Ki.
That said, full disclosure, I am a Nioh Supremacist and like those games way, way better than the Souls series. I am going to immediately play Wo Long…
I’ve tried a bunch of soulslikes and Nioh is the only non-fromsoft soulslike i’ve played that actually really got its hooks in me, have no doubt that this is gonna be great
I had a blast with Nioh 2, so I’m looking forward to this one. Team Ninja has shown they can emulate the Souls gameplay style without just relying on the tired “Souls is hard!” trope and calling it a day.
And I’ll be just as bad at it as all those combined. But that’s okay, because as I always tell people, soulslike games aren’t about being good, its about being too damn stubborn and stupid to give up. And I’m very stupid.
platforming the internet’s biggest crybaby
Because of your avatar, I read this in Huey Freeman’s voice and it was pretty on point.
nah bro, if Justin Roiland had a game release 20 years ago and it came out he was arrested for domestic abuse charges he’d still face public scrutiny and there’d probably be a greater chance his game would get pulled.
The irony of an Xbox exec bragging about releasing games.
Obviously there’s valid reason to be angry about this stuff, but it’s hardly bullshit. There are a lot of nuances, legally and from a financial perspective here. The biggest being WB is happy to auction off these shows if they hit some sort of financial standard they’ve decided on internally - likely not as big as the…
