I think all the manuals came with the LSD.
I think all the manuals came with the LSD.
My first post mentions why. But basically, the whole interior is not designed to future protect for fitting a gear lever and clutch.
I appreciate the number crunching - you’re probably not off by much in your $10M estimate if you consider cost of die cast tooling for a custom transmission case and various internals. I think the take rate for manuals since it wasn’t released with one would be lower than you estimate though.
That’s probably the easiest part. It’s just like any front wheel drive manual car - some push-pull cables in whatever length is necessary and an extended clutch hose/tube for the fluid to transfer back to the slave cylinder.
Yeah, my point was more that they didn’t even future protect for a manual gear lever in the center console.
My point here was that if GM expected to ever put a manual in the car, why wouldn’t they future protect for it? The interior is NOT designed for a gear lever in any way. It’s possible they could move that screen controller elsewhere or get rid of the cupholders and shoehorn one in there, but the mode selector is TINY…
I’d guesstimate it’d be more than $8-10k to justify all the tooling needed for a Manual. Even if they are able to shove an “off-the-shelf” manual transmission at the back of this thing, the interior would need to be redone to house a gear lever, who knows if the firewall is setup or has space for a clutch pedal.…
It’s possible and likely that the front and rear (and probably side) fairings are different on the performance models, similar to previous cars - allowing for even more cooling!
I don’t disagree that the 911 is far less aggressively styled, but I do think the C8 is a step in the right direction compared to the C7.
This! I’d probably not utilize the system if I owned one, just to be safe... and if it’s disable-able.
And the V8 Esprit shared an engine design with the C4 Corvette (ZR-1)! Full Circle!!! :P
I’m talking about the C8
Right, but my point stands - especially if the factory differential carrier is shared with another platform that it’s a cost savings leaving the base model open.
I agree it looks funky.
IDK man. MOST C8s will probably be base trims. Historically, the Z51 package hasn’t been the highest selling package. I’m sure the Z06 and ZR1 or whatever future performance packages will also come with the LSD, but there’s probably enough volume to support tooling for both - especially if the open differential…
I kind of dig it. Since the functions appear to be non-critical, it cleans up the critical functions that the driver is interested in if driving gets... spirited. It’s also unique - though I know being unique doesn’t mean useful.
No it doesn’t. Braking force and distribution are not solely dictated by the brake rotor diameter. There are many factors at play such as piston surface area (# of pistons), rotor minor diameter, pad material, fluid distribution, etc.
As others have pointed out, due to the rear weight distribution, it’s not uncommon.
I think they actually dampened the C7 styling a bit with the C8. I think it’s much less “look at me” than the C7 was. But that’s my opinion.
It wouldn’t be doing 0-60 in sub-3s with a front engine.
Dammit, your “/s” just snuck by me. I’m posting this anyway.
