There were plenty of commenters here who said exactly the same thing, bemoaning the ignorance of black voters who didn’t understand what was best for them.

Agreed. I know that the person was joking, but it’s still anti-Semitic. Even if she’s Jewish herself.
It’s not so long ago, really. Think of how many tens of thousands of ex-slaves were still alive in the 1920s and 1930s.
I don’t rely on Mormon-collected genealogies. It’s the millions of primary source records they’ve microfilmed and made available that are so important
Nobody had birth or death “certificates.” But you’d be amazed at how comprehensive the records (kept in ledgers) were in a lot of European countries — Germany, Poland, the Pale of Russia — in the 19th century for Jews, and long before that for Gentiles. Including “peasants” (not that Jews were ever considered…
You can be both a Jew and an atheist. I know lots of them.
My role model when I was a small child.
If my cat were the size of a tiger, I’d be dead 1000 times over. And I don’t think he meant to hurt me any of the times he did — he was playing.
Trans identity was a known phenomenon by the early 20th century; viz. Magnus Hirschfeld, Havelock Ellis, etc. Surely you’re familiar with Harry Benjamin later on? And Christine Jorgensen was way better known in the 1950s in the U.S.A. than any G or L person. There were others who were well known long before Renee…
It doesn’t actually say that they found the cat alive, though. So I’m still concerned!
Trans people have been asking for their rights for every bit as long as GL people. The problem is that nobody was listening until recently.
You seem to be talking to yourself here.
I’ve had counseling, and have talked about all this (combined with the inherently traumatic effects of being a second generation survivor), but never more than a year or so at a time. I’m not very good at it, I think! Plus, it’s almost impossible to find someone who both gets these issues, and also has experience with…
My mother was a child Holocaust survivor and refugee who died a meaningless death at 52 from injuries suffered in a car accident we were in when I was 20. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the sadness and regret. Especially now that I’m older than she ever was. I feel very bitter.
Not that I agree with it, but I think the theory is that men like that rape anyone that’s available and easy prey — whether it’s women, little boys, or little girls.
My own 1986 New York Magazine ad, which I quote in another comment to this piece — submitted long before my transition — specified that I was “short but neither fat nor bald,” and sought someone with “similar physical characteristics.” I figured it was the only way that someone living as a guy who was only 5' 2" could…
The last ad on column 3 at page 104 at this link, from a July 1986 issue of New York Magazine, was mine. Obviously, it was quite a while before I transitioned! I figured that an attempt at humor was the only way that someone as short as I was (5' 2") could get a response. I think I got about 50 letters, so some women,…
You think she doesn’t hate gay men? How not cute of you.
Being bisexual doesn’t stop her from being a bigot towards gay men — sorry, “faggots.”
I’m not here to educate you on Judaism. Read the Talmud and come back to me.
