Because Judaism isn’t Christianity, that’s why. The Talmud put so many restrictions on the theoretical application of the death penalty that it became essentially impossible to apply — for anything, including parricide. And there’s no evidence that it ever was, at any time when Jews had the power to impose it.

You may be born Jewish, but you obviously know zero about the history of Judaism, including Reform Judaism. Here’s a hint: not all Jews are Karaites. Have you ever heard of the Talmud? Interpretation and disputation are kind of big in the Jewish religion!

“This whole ‘leaving society and forming a women’s only society’ is looking better and better.”

That whole issue — fear of dealing with disclosure of my history and the consequences — is one of the main reasons I’ve had little or no social life since I transitioned 11 years ago.

That’s actually a phony statistic. Things are bad enough for trans women without doing that. The statistic is based on the average age at death of trans women who are murdered or are otherwise reported to have died by violence (including suicide). It doesn’t include all trans women in general, including those who

Right. There’s a big difference between wanting to eliminate private prisons, and wanting to stop imprisoning people for drug crimes and other non-violent offenses, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, claiming that prison should be abolished for rapists, murderers and other people who commit violent crimes. I

All of a sudden people would realize that Warren was a Republican until 1995 — which, of course, is completely ignored now by the very same people who like to shout about Hillary having been pro-Goldwater at 16 in 1964 (even though she was campaigning for Gene McCarthy by the end of 1967).

When I think of a flophouse, I think of beds separated by plywood partitions that don’t go all the way up to the ceiling, with chicken wire at the top. Not exactly the same.

Citation?

I’ll accept that as your admission that you’ve got nothing to support your completely frivolous argument, which I doubt that even you believe.

You asked who sold more books. Please provide a shred of evidence that Gay Talese sold more, or is more well-known by any measure. Go ahead. Anything at all. “Well, it’s my opinion that Talese sells better.” What? Do you have any idea how silly you sound?

Is that a serious question? Why don’t you go look it up, and embarrass yourself further. You’re the one making the moronic contention, so the burden is on you to prove it.

By most people. Are you seriously comparing Talese’s fame and reputation to a single one of them? I think it’s up to you to provide evidence if that’s the case. Here’s one measure, which I think relates to how much they’re read currently and recently:

I think he wrote one of those Mafia “tell all” books that were popular back in the 60s/70s.

Are you serious? Didion, Sontag, Ephron, McCarthy, etc., are all FAR better known, and more frequently read today, than Talese.

Nonsense. Saying that women journalists don’t want to deal with the gritty side isn’t just an opinion, it’s a factual contention that’s obviously false, given the innumerable disproofs.

Perhaps he had never had sex with a conscious woman, and therefore didn’t know how to tell the difference.

When white people with tattoos start getting shot by cops on a regular basis for giving them a funny look, or develop a long history of being enslaved and lynched and denied housing and made to drink from separate water fountains and eat at separate lunch counters, then maybe you can complain that it’s just as ugly as
