Wasn’t this a plot element in the book The World According to Garp? Someone giving a blowjob to the driver and biting off his dick when there’s an accident?

Transphobes always love to cite a recent Swedish study to support their argument that suicide rates increase post-transition and post-surgery. But if you look at the actual study, you will see (1) that the increase in suicide rates is true only for those who transitioned/had surgery before 1989, with no increase

Don’t forget “Glory,” about black soldiers in the Civil War. It always used to bother me that in 90% of “classic” Hollywood movies dealing with the Civil War (all of them except Lincoln biographies, really), the Confederates were portrayed as the good guys and the Union as the bad guys. It was revolting.

My son and I were in the goddamn Catskills last summer and there was basically zero cellphone reception outside the small towns.

Whiteness is a sociopolitical construct, and a nebulous one at that. Arabs are “officially” considered white for purposes of the U.S. census, and I’ve known a number of Syrian/Lebanese people in the U.S. who both “look” and identify as white. The assumption that all Arab people view themselves as people of color is

Darryl always needs to wash his hair. It’s apparently part of his appeal for some people. Not for me.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks there hasn’t been a huge amount of sneering, contemptuous hatred and ridicule towards Caitlyn Jenner, on social media and elsewhere, hasn’t been paying attention. Never mind towards other trans people.

You can’t just dump a 6-year old and be absolved of all responsibility for it. There has to be a limit.

Is that what beaches in England generally look like, with all that lovely “sand”?

Look at the kid staring at them!

That’s kind of how I see it. The look on her face is basically how I’ve always looked at my son, and I can’t imagine ever doing anything other than accepting him wholeheartedly. But it’s nice to be reassured by people who aren’t biased, so thank you.

Thank you so much.

How many children of trans people do you actually know? Do you think he actually believes that Bruce and Caitlyn are two different people? Nobody is that stupid (with certain possible exceptions). Not everything has to be expressly stated, and normal human beings realize that. .

They definitely don’t make beach chairs like they used to! It was the North Sea — even windier than the Baltic, I would guess. The flags are certainly snapping vigorously enough.

Great photos!

Isn’t it simply the underneath part of a boardwalk?

Since you seem to know about such things, do you have any idea what that thing draped around my grandfather’s mother’s neck in the second photo is? A little warm for a scarf, I would think!

Since you like old photos, here’s one more I found, showing my maternal grandmother’s two first cousins and their parents (the man in white, a doctor in Heidelberg, was my great-grandmother’s closest brother), taken on August 25, 1911 at the beach in Norderney, one of the East Frisian islands in the North Sea off

She’s the same person with a different name. Her son isn’t saying she’s two different people; he’s distinguishing between before and after. She’s still his parent.

Transphobe as well. The “Ann Coulter is a man” jokes were never funny.
