I had the same thought — that this sort of surgery would be kind of premature unless they (being gender-neutral here) had already been on hormones for some time. Which is why I think it's almost certainly another made-up story.

Well, Jezebel at least pretends to be trans friendly. That's a lot more than you can say about Gawker, where people still make openly transphobic comments, use the "T-word," etc.
It's not like Bruce Jenner has confirmed any of that. And even if it's true, that doesn't make what the tabloids are doing right. Plus I'm highly dubious that this story is true, any more than the story not long ago about Bruce already having had genital surgery.
So what would be an example of a transphobic joke that you think is funny? How about a homophobic or racist joke?
There's nothing delightful about Fran Lebowitz. Nothing. She's notoriously and disgustingly transphobic. See http://skipthemakeup.blogspot.com/2010/06/beauti…, describing her comments in the documentary about Candy Darling.
Did Abigail and John Adams own slaves? I don't think so.
Racism? Against French people?
As I said in a comment above, Bruce Jenner has not yet confirmed that the transition stories are true. Until that happens, I have been using "they" to refer to Bruce, as a gender-neutral singular pronoun.
Not to mention that under the WPATH guidelines which most surgeons follow, you're supposed to transition and live as your "new" gender for a year before having genital surgery. Not "first have surgery and then transition and pick a new name, etc." The chances that Bruce Jenner actually has had surgery already —…
I graduated from high school in 1972 and the AP tests were on a 0-5 scale even then, so I doubt they were ever 0-180.
Also, in ancient Rome, the upper classes apparently speak like the Queen of England; the lower classes have Cockney accents. I would like it better if they all had New Jersey accents.
I don't like the MTF/FTM terminology, but she was playing an "MTF" — a trans woman.
As a young child who already knew I was trans (not that I knew the word), The Land of Oz was my favorite book. As the Scarecrow said to Ozma after she was transformed into herself from Tip, "you're just the same, only different."
I've been an attorney for more than 30 years in New York City, and nobody here has ever once addressed me (orally or in writing) using "Attorney" followed by my last name. Perhaps that's how it's done in other cities?
And speaking of administrators, don't forget that a beloved, well-known headmaster used to bring teenage students to his residence and, along with a math teacher, have his own little "orgies," some of which he apparently filmed.
My first thought when I read this was Horace Mann. Where this sort of thing went on for at least 30 or 40 years (and who knows how long before that), through multiple generations of teachers and students — including at least one student (a classmate of mine) who later became a teacher there and was himself an abuser.…
The Hebrew Bible says nothing about it. God loves watching lesbians from on high.
Think of the Hitler Youth. They knew what they were signing up for. It was exciting and patriotic and gave them a chance to be part of a group and sing songs about soaking their knives in Jewish blood. A gang of them beat up my mother when she was in her early teens and tried to drown the group of small Jewish…
You seriously don't believe there's such a thing as British citizenship? Wow.
Of course it's not exactly true that Baghdad was the center of all learning during the European Middle Ages. Leaving aside that there were other cities in the Islamic world where learning went on, there was certainly learning (and preservation of ancient scholarship) in Constantinople and elsewhere in the Byzantine…
