I mentioned below, but this is in his Nightmares and Dreamscapes book. I got this one in 6th grade and now years later (I'm 31) I still prefer his short stories!
I don't blame you at all. I've always been freaked out about bringing something from the other side over, don't know how much of the stories I believe about this but if only 1% is correct that is still enough for me not to want to go down that path.
This is very sad. It seems like the girls' spirit needs help crossing over, I'm not sure if there are standard methods to this but the steps on this website seem to provide some information. http://www.angelsghosts.com/spirit_rescue I personally believe in lingering spirits but have no experience with so I don't know…
Holy Jesus, that is freaky. One of my faves, and I read aaaall the stories :)
I was very open for a while and will say that some haunts want acknowledgement, some want attention, some want to scare the willies out of you, some couldn't care less. Some stuff happened with an attention seeker that made me want to ignore spooks for a long time.

This has nothing to do with your story, but you're from England so you're a good person to ask. A scary short story I read in the early 90s is set in Crouch End and one of the parts that creeped me out was a sign one of the characters sees outside a tube station. It's a newspaper headline that says: "Sixty Lost in…
Why wasn't the body removed????? Could they not find it?
That poor little girl. Sounds like she just wants to be comforted.
That is so sad. Tragic. I believe it. Also - HI! Longtime reader/lurker on jezebel and I love love love the scary stories every year...this story made me finally join the conversation :)
Wow, that's pretty creepy and very sad.
This story just made me really sad. That poor little girl.
Scary. *shivers*
So creepy! Have you been able to do any research on the house, or the woman? Also, what war?
taking you out of the greys!
