@PuppydogMillionaire: My boyfriend and his sister were both adopted as newborns. While his parents are proud that they adopted him, there has never been a discussion of why they weren't able to conceive. I guess you're spot on about the shame of infertility.

I'm always curious why adoption isn't an option for people seeking egg donors. Either way the baby is not the same genetically as the mother. Is it because it is the father's child? Is it because they can choose who the mother will be down to each and every nitty-gritty detail?
