I don’t think they started doing that until season 4. IIRC, Day 1 was just the one regular hour; Days 2 & 3 had commercial-free first hours; and starting with Day 4, when they switched to airing the show from January to May with no breaks, they did 2 hour Sundays followed by 2 hour Mondays for the premiere.

Richard Walsh was killed in hour 2. (At 1:54 a.m., apparently.)

I got the Buffy S1 DVDs and watched that episode with the director’s commentary (thus learning that fact for the first time) days before the S6 episode where Tara got shot. When Amber Benson showed up on that episode’s credit, I straight up laughed out loud because I knew what was going to happen to her.
