It takes about half an hour to get to NYC from my town and we had the disturbing choice of sticking to Verizon DSL or switching to Comcast. We finally got 30mbps from Comcast (I thought it was heaven coming from a 7mbps connection) since FiOS isn’t available on our street. I agree, local monopolies suck :(
