Is it getting better? I watched till episode 4 and gave up. For a show about secret agents, assassins, and portals to other dimensions starring J.K.Simmons, it has a lot of dry office politics bullshit.

Ha!  It kinda is.

Eh, as long as I have nothing better to do on a Sunday night, I’ll just keep on watching.

Surely Warner Bros won’t fuck this one up.

Oh no, a director I don’t like dropped out of a movie I don’t give a shit about, stop the presses.

Kinda like how hollywood can’t depict mexican culture positively without glazing it in day of the dead bullshit.

Does there need to be a season 3? I feel like last seasons ending was pretty conclusive. I mean, what else can they do?

I’m getting to this meme really late, but after hearing about it on npr I was expecting something really crazy, like maybe the guy started spastically humping the air or something. Then I saw the video, and I don’t see what the big deal is. They look a little out of sync, but given the silly costumes and clumsy

That was a good read. I’m not sure I completely agree with it, but what he describes as that ‘new york jewish intellectual liberal arts gestalt’ that Allen uses to seduce audiences I found pretty damn on point, and its what’s always irritated me about him, people like Garrison Keillor, and that NPR egghead crowd of

Ah, yeah that is gross.

I hesitate to wade into this, but why do you find it gross? I mean, its not like they’re related.

Oh man, I can’t wait. I’ve been a fan of this guy from his short films, and I’ve been anticipating his next project. I did not expect a full length horror movie.

Well, the new one was too. I never accused 2049 of not being a labor of love, I just don’t think it’s visuals are as great as the original’s.

Comparing the two, it strikes me how visually flat so many of the shots are in 2049. The original is full of hard shadows and high contrast lighting that make really dynamic images, but almost every shot in 2049 is cast in this homogeneous fog that soften all the shadows and details.  Robin Wrights office especially

Look, I just like dogs, okay?  A movie called Isle of Dogs coulda used a few more dogs is all I’m saying.

The trailers for every Wes Anderson movie always lead me to expect something terrible and annoying, but I always end up enjoying his films anyway. Buy yeah, Isle of Dogs looks bad. Mostly I’m just annoyed that, for a movie called Isle of Dogs, there only appear to be about 6 or 7 dogs in total. In terms of design too,

Both did their best with really bad material.

Lieutenant Ackbar?  Captain Ackbar!

Completely agree, it placed way too much importance on the original, especially on Deckard and Rachel. It way overestimated how much we were invested in them as characters and in their romance. They ended up making the same mistake the star wars prequels did, where they got a character like Vader and turned him into

I like General Ackbar, everybody likes him, but he’s not a great character. Other than being a giant calamari man who shouts orders, there really isn’t much to him. Giving him such an important role without developing his character beforehand would have been awkward as hell.
