I’m a huge VanderMeer fan, so I tend to go into movie versions of books I like with muted expectations. But I’m also a big Garland fan, so there was some conflict there! Anyway, I loved the movie as its own Garland standalone thing, but my brain reading the books created way more terrifying images of Area X than what
