Definitely unprofessional, and doubly so if one of the actors you’re directing is friends (or friends of friends) with the person you’re cheating on. That puts that person in a really, really difficult position. Do you tell your friend? What does that do for your workplace?

Maybe he’s a different person in actuality than his public persona or the roles he’s played? He’s not actually Dr. John Dorian, and Scrubs went off the air 12 years ago. Little bit of a difference there. Braff and Pugh met on the set of the short film and then started dating. Also (and probably more importantly), when they started dating neither of them were in an an almost 10 year relationship (including an 8 year engagement) in which two kids were involved.
