The Orphan Master's Son was probably the best book I've read written in the last 5 years…….Johnson floored me on every page.

Personally, I'd argue that he was a better essayist because I have never read an essay of his that I didn't, at the very least, respect, and A Supposedly Fun Thing… and Big Red Son are undoubtedly two of the best essays EVER written.
