You’re not wrong - I think it could be done successfully as a single film, but I also think it could work as two films. For the casual moviegoer, one might be better, and for the super-fan, two would likely be better.

Personally I think that’s smart. Unlike The Hobbit, this is a novel that actually can support multiple films. Film 1 will be the fall of House Atreides, film 2 will be the rise of Muad’Dib.

Exactly, precisely correct. I think it will be fan service for the uber-nerds but the general public will yawn. There is sooo much lore in that universe... 

I’m going to be SO disappointed if the HBO/Villeneuve kerfuffle over streaming new movies tanks the Dune franchise before it can get off the ground.
