Take the juice from those macerated apples and cook it down on the stove until thickened, and add it back to your apple filling - it will add a lot of flavor.

Plain old wheat flour is a great thickener, as well.  I sprinkle it over and toss everything gently when I add that thickened apple syrup back in.

I’m in northern New England, and I make Quebecois Tourtiere - we had it for dinner last night, in fact.  It’s excellent pie.

People also smoked, so a lot of tastebuds were numb.

I’m from Portland, ME - love me some B&M. I miss the smell of the beans -they made them put scrubbers on the chimneys in the late 90s for environmental purposes, so you can barely smell them these days. We love B&M baked beans and brown bread at our house - with a side of red snappers (red hot dogs) you got a good

Even if they were the president?

They do this with skate wings, too.

We’ve ordered it a couple of times now - my kid really likes it. It’s not awful, but it’s obviously not some sort of gourmet treat. It’s not even the worst thing Pizza Hut has on it’s menu.

If you want some good root beer, order this:

Margaret Atwood is a treasure.  I saw her speak once, on the book tour for one of the Madd Adam trilogy books, and she was brilliant.  (I even got her autograph, and had her sign my limited edition copy of The Journals of Susannah Moodie).  I’m so glad she’s getting more of the recognition she so richly deserves.

Right - my favorite diner and drive in (yes, they have carhops - and no, it’s not a Sonic) make amazing burgers that are better than fast food and I definitely prefer them to restaurant style.  At home are the best though, my spouse makes amazing cheeseburgers.

Down, boy!

I don’t know why BK doesn’t carry cheesy tots all the time.  They are the only reason to go there.

Clearly they are having trouble finding good people.  Just look at what this person they hired as a manager wrote!

I’ve heard of Ailsa Craig onions, but not tomatoes.  Google is telling me they’re popular in the UK; I’m in the US.

I like Black Krim, Big Rainbow, or Brandywine. Home grown, of course.
Does that make it a BLB?

This is a Palmier, traditionally. I make them at Christmas time, and they are about 2 inches across. In the bakeries that offer them here in Maine, they call them Elephant Ears and they are like 6 inches across. A butter rich dough (no eggs), rolled out in granulated sugar, formed into a log by rolling up the sides,

It was a different time for gay rights in the US.  As awful as things are politically now, the US has become more enlightened in the past 2 decades.  I know the closeted marine is a trope, now, but back then I think it rang with some legitimacy.  I saw this movie in the theater back then, when I was in my mid 20s.

Plus she’s having an affair and being pretty horrible in general.  People forget that part.  They blame him but it was on her, too.

Asking forgiveness from the universe for having been a beer glass-thieving tool in my 20s.

I want to like her, because she does have a beautiful voice, but she is among the least creative people on the planet.
