Your pasta won't stick together if you boil it in a larger pot of water. You are releasing the starches and the starches are clinging to the noodle since you do not have enough water to dilute all the starch.

I think the staff is worried that if you do this too long then your room will take longer to clean. It's sort of like at home, if you touch up your kitchen every day, it wont be a disaster area in a year.
