True.. Anyone who tries to convince you that the Kindle Fire is "as capable" as an iPad is a dolt. However that's sorta the point. I've heavily used both and unless I have need for a mobile video conference with a very crappy camera (read "I don't"), then there is no reason to own the iPad whatsoever. Yeah, it's

How long have the books been not free to transfer to your own devices? Mine move back and forth all the time and I never paid a penny.

Brilliant.

I used Teracopy for a while but since I'm the admin for 100's of computers nationwide I just pushed Robocopy to all the XP machines via a startup script and use shell scripts for moving files when needed. It's not as fast as Teracopy but it has all the advantages of being free and the user having no clue it exists.

I park, get the mail, and immediately throw anything that doesn't need shreddin' in the recycle bin in the garage every day.

Not that my opinion counts for much, but FFX was awful and the main reason I lost faith in the whole Final Fantasy franchise. I thought XII might fix it, but it was just not enough.

I'd love to jump ship for Verizon, but it's too bloody expensive for the same data plan...

Law enforcement and such have to be able to prove that the person is a threat in order to use force. "Making an example" is not a suitable explanation for force, even if the person is being a pain in the ass and that could cause a LOT of trouble.

I figured that football season would be over by now...

I dunno, but I want to buy them. I've almost called up the cable company so I can get HBO, but I don't watch TV/Cable otherwise so even season one is just not worth it. If they throw it on Netflix or Hulu, that'd be great. But as it stands HBOgo seems to be locked into those who already have HBO. Seems like they

Everyone on WiMax and LTE is on 4G for only the purposes of marketing. Those are just candidates. They have a theoretical max of 100mbps/1gbps (for stationary low movement thingys). We're nowhere near the peak. 4th Gen technology is far from mature, but they want us to buy into 5th Gen cellular systems? What a

Seriously? Google is evil because you OPT IN to them unifying your data across all the free services you use? What a load of horse shit. There's nothing evil about this. Most readers of Gawker are smart enough and savvy enough to use 2, maybe even 3 browsers for their needs. I use Google Chrome for 90% of

"Part of it will be sex scenes with blue asexual aliens that look female" (IE boobs)

Step 1: Grow up in rural Minnesota or another place that gets lots of snow and rare plowing.

Or just chew bubble gum or drink some water. I'd be FAR more interested in a method to keep my 7 month old son from suffering it (besides flying on the Dreamliner, that is).

Um... I use Ethernet over Power in my house and stream HD to the 360 with it and lots of bandwidth to spare. It's rated at 200Mbps and that's what I get. Both in my new house (13 years old) and in our old townhome (30 years old). It's the newer Linksys model, not sure specifically which one. but it works very well.

from dust? really? One of your "pleasant surprises" was a crappy version of Populous?

@hmlj

Went through a similar problem with the jackasses at Citizen Bank that gave me a car loan. Typical situation where you let the dealership find you the lender, etc, but still. They refused to accept payment via phone or internet without a convenience charge of something like $18 for a phone check, $20 for a phone

It's fairly easy to keep an updated list of advertizing sites on a block list. Lots of work on their part, almost no effort on your part.
