Now you know what von Braun was up to after the war.

That’s actually the one I was looking for - on 2 wheels is the iconic pose for the BTCC 850. But it didn’t show up in the first few hits in an image search and I couldn’t be bothered looking further.

“The psychological effects on other drivers of being passed by a wagon should not be underestimated”

And a little-known benefit of the Jag setup is that when the gas station isn’t busy, you can park in the middle of the aisle and fill both sides at once. Saves a few minutes, but mostly worth doing for the confusion it causes the attendant when you want to pay for 2 pumps at once.

“Formula Obe”. That’s the one for people who race like a Sir, yes?

That’s how I do it. Not in every corner - sometimes H&T thru the box is faster - but there are definitely some corners where there’s a convenient point between braking & acceleration to make a downshift in. Shifting there isn’t much slower than moving your foot from brake to throttle, and you probably weren’t hard on

It’s more like a measure of how well your car (or driver) can manage wheel spin off the line. Which is not so relevant in real life, unless you’re leaving C&C in a Mustang.

Based on my wife’s experience, if you can drive in Manolo Blahniks (or any serious heel) and not look like a fool, you are truly a goddess among women.

I saw the Mazda in person at Leadfoot last year. It sounds every bit as good in person.

Or Burt Munro or John Britten. Bikes not cars, yes, but same deal.

Mini: the only replacement for displacement.

The Keas probably laid a trap, to get revenge for McLaren stupidly claiming to have come through Kea country unscathed. They’re smart little bastards.

Good to see race truck drivers have the same beer-based training regimen as regular truck drivers. I may have a career opportunity after all.

Which weighs about 100kg more than the production XJ220, but probably 1/2 ton less than a V12 4WD one would have: the Jag V12's a heavy lump, even though it’s ally.

I was working in the UK auto industry at the time, and that’s my recollection too: it was all about a tanking economy and too many people speculating on places in the queue. A lesson which hypercar manufacturers have taken to heart - deterring speculators and ensuring the people in the queue are financially sound is

Just for the record, Nico’s kicking Lew’s butt on the selfie front

I replaced my 05 GTI (mk5) with an 01 XJR (X308). They’re a lot more similar than you might imagine - real world performance & space aren’t that far apart, and they’re equally enjoyable drives, if for different reasons. The Jag’s more comfy and better looking, the Golf’s easier to park and doesn’t drink so much.

Also: I wonder what the carbon footprint of 4 lever arms, gears, generators, and electronics is vs the lifetime fuel saving

Just because Audi’s doing it, doesn’t mean it’s not stupid :-)
