Interesting that you mention North Korea. The markets in The Handmaid's Tale have been shown to be full of a bounty of food; I'm wondering if this is only the case in a few cities and the outlying areas are in a famine (similar to North Korea in the 1990s when basically everything produced went to Pyongyang).

Yeah, I just found some of those posts. Apparently they require an exact list of every character (or at least every young-seeming character)'s age. And I would find it creepy if Lars or Sadie or any of the cool kids were trying to hook up with Steven or Connie or someone like that. But that whole older teen group has

It felt great seeing someone else love crustaceans the way they should be loved.

So Linda's nemesis Colleen's last name means "clown" in Italian. Make of that what you will.

The protest scene was so painful for me. I don't know why it hurt more than Emily's lover's death—maybe it was the culmination of all the sadness in this episode hitting during the most familiar moment. Maybe it was the song. But ahhh.

Yeah, I followed this up with some "Bill Nye Saves the World." That was the only thing that could salvage my evening.

I'd say more like Phyllis Schlafly or Ann Coulter.

Luisa and Rose will definitely be in that episode…

Yes! That's perfect.

I don't think he was supposed to be a lousy human being or that that's what they were telegraphing—the narrator said in that episode that she liked knowing the endings of books before she read them.

Agreed. I'm not a fan of Ravi's drunk hookup with his former boss, and if his romance with Peyton is sunk, then so be it, but I am totally on Team Ravi when it comes to forgiving or not forgiving Blaine.

Yep. There were probably some parents who were endlessly heaping unearned praise on their kids. But there are millions of kids, and nearly as many parenting styles. So yeah, there were some hippie-dippie undisciplined everything-you-do-is-great types….and then there were monstrous abusers who thought that beating kids

It's on my (long) list of shows I want to watch…I'm glad to know it's good.

Well, I had a WONDERFUL pop culture weekend, as I got to see one of my favourite bands, The New Pornographers, live. They were amazing, playing a set that included one of my favourite songs, "Sweet Talk, Sweet Talk." (Which apparently has its own clapping pattern—who knew?)
I've also been reading Dreamland, by Sam

"I think I can swim/I'm pretty sure I have a fin"

Dads.

Mine was Fine Just the Way It Is by Annie Proulx.

Downloaded The New Pornographers' Whiteout Conditions from iTunes. Listened to it multiple times throughout the weekend. It probably won't be my favourite album of theirs, but there are some very good songs on it, and I really like it.

I totally loved that.
