He's a tax exile from Britain.

Shit! You're right! I damn near forgot about the Rimmer clones (sounds dirty).

I agree with you on that point. I just wanted the record to show how full of himself he'd gotten by 'Lady in the Water' (a film I enjoyed due to its ability to laugh at itself despite how full of itself it was).

It worked up until he cast himself as the great genius whose book would change the world.

Tiny Rimmers dancing and singing do make me laugh just by thinking about it.

McQuairre has interesting ideas, but they generally have to be smoothed out. TNG's Enterprise is essentially McQuairre's design refined, including the saucier separation idea.

I think a lot of people have trouble combining the concept of a fighting military to one of exploration and science. Star Fleet wasn't doing anything that current or past militaries haven't: exploration, scientific research and advancement, humanitarian aid, first contact with new civilizations, etc.

My favorite bit is on the waxdroid world with the firing squad.

Roddenberry didn't like the costumes in II because they were military looking. By that time he'd altered the concept of Star Fleet and was adamant that they weren't a military organization (even though he originally described Kirk as Horatio Hornblower in space). Nicolas Myers did more to give Trek the feel of

Not according to PETA.

When Viacom owned Paramount and CBS, they split the rights. Paramount kept film rights and CBS got the TV rights. Now that the companies are split, CBS can do anything from the TV shows since Paramount rebooted the film universe.

They really don't give a shit about it. Continuity has always been in flux for the show. The philosophy is essentially, 'Do it, make it funny, and nobody will care."

Forget safety protocols. Why aren't there locks on the holodeck doors? There are teenagers on that damn ship!

Because unauthorized fraternization leads to chemical castration.

A ship that cleans itself, eh? I guess that's why the ships' computers all have female voices.

Are you trying to start a pun thread?

Watch some TOS and remember 60's TV restrictions. That was just following in Gene's original vision for the show.

I was looking to see if anyone was going to make a Trek/NCIS joke.

By series 3 they get it figured out, and it's brilliant. Series 7 is kinda meh. At that point they're getting old (plus Chris Barrie was out most of that series proving how important Rimmer is to the whole concept).

I'm imagining that it's going to be an Eddie Murphy & Arsenio Hall in 'Coming to America' situation where they're going to use editing and costumes to have those they do have to play all the rest of the characters.
