I don't think the Carroll O'Connor held the belief portrayed in the show, but he was such a great actor, he could play the part. The writing was excellent, but the actors brought it all to life. He played the part of a bigot that showed his love and commitment to his family in the show.

Can't be done because the networks are too politically correct or too willing to push their LGBT agenda for it to be watchable.
