I don't think it's meant to be a dig, I think the reviewer was pointing out that Vancouver is used as a stand-in for all kinds of locales so often that it kind of looks like nowhere.

Considering all of those points, I feel like he could have had a career similar to Jason Statham's if he had angled his career properly. Although I have no idea if he's anywhere as good at comedy as Statham is.

Yeah, the idea of having heat-sensitive live ammo seems bonkers to me (it would be SO easy for a panicked guest to run through the crossfire and get hit), so hopefully the showrunners have tweaked that to be a little more realistic.
