Del Toro is a legit, Tarantino and Scorsese-level cinephile. Love that about him.

The reason why this episode worked so incredibly well for me is how it humanized failure. Darden - and by extension Clark - made huge mistakes in their prosecution, and how we see it played out gives us the insight that these weren't dumb people - they just made the wrong decisions at that given time.
What I love about this series so far is how they've let each all of these main actors shine for at least one episode. And they've all hit it out of the park - including Travolta's slimy Shapiro.
Ozu ranked for me:
ozu is sooo good with color tho
Best acting in an American television show since God knows when. This episode floored me.
Actually, it's quite the opposite: forgetting Season 1 would've already made me turn it off. The sharp decline in the level of writing is astounding, and my only hope is that things can somehow improve in the next couple of episodes.
Frankly - and I seem to be in the minority - this episode was a D. The Paul subplot is so poorly written that I find it hard to believe it was penned by the same guy who last season was willing to tackle abstract, metaphysical concepts in a way we rarely - if ever - saw on TV. Even a "throwaway" role like Michelle…
guys, this has been the high point of season 2 thus far:
anyone else think vince vaughn looks perpetually constipated on this show?
killing off velcoro might have been the worst decision made in either season. farrell is laurence olivier compared to kitsch.
This episode made me want to rewatch Double Indemnity, Kiss Me Deadly, and In A Lonely Place.
Thematically, this season is not on the same stratosphere as the first. It's not close. None of the leads have (or had) any chemistry. It really goes to show you how perfectly paired Harrelson and McConaughey were.
Taylor Kitsch's character is basically useless two episodes in, and has no detective skills whatsoever - why couldn't they kill him off? Definitely some Inherent Vice vibes going on here, especially with the doctor stuff. - I wasn't expecting this season to be so heavy on the noir foreshadowing. That part I like…
how much you wanna bet it's got to do with taylor kitsch's scars?
Sorry, but if one drinks a bottle of whiskey, with a few beers to boot, it takes more than a few hours of sleep, at most, to be totally OK.
If you'll allow me to use a baseball analogy, The Western Book Of The Dead was a walk. Not flashy or particularly exciting, but just as good as a base hit. Ready for more.
