I kind of think the only real important piece of info given through his "time travel" was to remind us that Howland Reed was at the Tower of Joy. Howland is the only person (I can think of) who could share the story of who was in the Tower of Joy that day and why.

I kind of hope they're done with the time stuff. I liked it and all, but things can get pretty sloppy if they depend on it too much.
