I thought this too, but then I remembered who he showed the picture to - Bernard.

I think the time-jump episode this season is some hard evidence that he has genuine affection for them. He asks for time off for them not as a handler, but as a caring individual. I remember a specific scene where he comes to the realization after seeing how broken then are. I think his care for them in that situation

I was listening to an interview with him on The Close-Up podcast, and he mentions the lack of equipment and resources he was working with. He had to borrow a camera from a TV station to complete the shoot, after borrowing another that needed to be taken back. Definitely a "work with what we got" type situation.

Thought this was a still from The Neon Demon.

Thinking she had a really powerful ending to her story arc, and the writers won't start something new with her.

The Girlfriend Experience (TV Series). On episode 5 and am totally hook. Loving the ultramodern settings and cinematography, it's so great when digital is done right. I'm also very interested by their decision to go with 30min episodes; any exec would see this as hour-long prestige, buy 30min is just a brilliant,

The link for "The Red Road" takes you to the AV Club review of the Sundance series, not the film. Also, there is no "The".

Saw this at VIFF, a high A- with everything you could possibly want from a thriller theater experience. Try to see the late night showing.

Valentines Day in Seattle, I'm in.

Be on the look out for the film Men Go to Battle - really excellent low-budget Civil War Western.

C's and D's all January.

Actually I meant SARAH Palmer, the mom. I love Laura.

I can't stand Sherry Palmer. She works in the pilot because the introduction is supposed to be utterly depressing, but I dread her crying and screams for the rest of the series.

Whitney, the daughter on The Affair. Ugh. We could probably come up with a massive list of teens/child actors.

You accidentally wrote "Videotapes" at the beginning of the 8th paragraph. Also, no caps? Great article though, The Knick has had me on a Soderbergh binge.

It only gets better imo. The answers are satisfying but still leave a bit of mystery.

Above! (maybe)

It also reminded me a bit of Giuseppe's transformation.

Yes

Damn. There's one of my favorite sequences of cinematography and editing in The Long Goodbye: Marlowe stands on the beach while a couple have a fight inside, and the he shoots through a window, catching Marlowe's reflection. Then comes a ton of superimposition for more texture. Love it.
