I remember reading spell when I was about 10 and generally enjoying it, although I was a bit put off by all the stuff about sex. When I was 15 I stumbled across the second book in the series and was immediately hit by the "horrible nagging wife" trope and some contest for which the reward was dating Millie the Ghost.
