1. That cheeky Woody Allen reference! Have you met another network show so brave? On the CW!

I thought the brick topics were fascinating, but the neglecting brick is starting to feel less oh nothing is perfect and more heartbreaking therapy fuel
"telenovela fantasy, grounded emotion, and clever humor"
exactly!
This show always makes me want to go omg that's so funny (mostly when the narrator is speaking) and cry because of the touching family dynamics, and while it is admittedly soap opera-y the self-awareness keeps it from being excessively so.
I haveto admit it's hard for me to make it through a whole episode awake, but it's the funny dynamic (rather than the plot)that keeps me coming back. I like how there are no bad guys (except maybe sin Rostro and Petra's mother) everyone else is just trying their best and doing crappy things in the process.
maybe it's because my expectations for this show are freaking low, but I quite enjoyed this episode.
I cried.
I love Kai. Can Kai and Nick get married? Her timing is on point. I love her not learning people's names.
My favorite part of this episode was how the A plot came knocking into the B plot with Mindy asking Peter to delete the email for her. That's some brilliant writing.
Kai is the best. The visual joke of her falling asleep under the newspaper was hilarious. After Winston suggests that she is homeless (because she wears layers), the fact that all she wants to do is nap and eat all day is imbued with hilarity. Reminds of that episode of Seinfeld where George's girlfriend's mom…
It would be terrifying if Adam and Kristina were real. They feel like they're playing school than actually running one. Still, the Max storyline is my favorite, it generally played out somewhat realistically. From Kristina being cautious and Adam creating the "fluid scale of affection" to them breaking it to Max…
in a moment of panic! and she didn't know there were two turkeys.
I guess you're of the pro-Woody Allen camp.
lol misplace
Yeah, I do think Lily can be pretty funny when she's sarcastic, like she's the only sane person in the family. But I think she sort of stumbles onto a great delivery rather than actively executing it.
I've been mostly a Modern Family Hater after season 2/3…with the tired jokes on the verge of racist/bigoted, the horrible acting and the same old gags. (why am I still watching? because sometimes you need to turn your brain off)
so many good lines. The references to the food are a leetleee too much, even though I totally empathize.
To be fair, at least it is mirroring her mother so it's not so out of the blue. But I do think there is this displaced infatuation with young, beautiful, mothers, even if they're absolutely flailing.
Yeah, it kinda seems like she expects her family will help her out, because there's no way she's raising another human with what I bet is $500 in her bank account.
yup. Basketball is flashy! Just like Chris. Baseball is solid, real, noble.
OMG the crying. I can never tell if the directors tell her to do it or Mae Whitman is just super empathetic.
