School, Mayor run, Breast Cancer, Pregnancy. It's all too overly maudlin for me.

"I'm sorry, it makes absolutely no damn sense that Sarah picked Hank over Dr. Perfect or John Ritter's kid."
Yeah, that felt a little over the line, but I think besides Adam having his own agenda he also felt a little too comfortable since he's known Chris before…but still…hello, kids?!
this actually sounds really hilarious.
I don't like Chris because he's not Joel. He's also too smooth and flashy. Unfortunately, he seems like a good guy. I do think (hope) it's gonna be a The Notebook situation where the good looking guy is perfect, BUT HE'S NOT JOEL.
I love Max!
dude, we have the gift of hindsight and this being a fictional situation.
I also like how it was at her apartment, so you saw his apprehension about where she lived, and after she told him she was pregnant you can almost see him put it all together and see her in a less favorable light. Not especially nice, but realistic, and who's to say a nice person wouldn't react that way.
I haven't read the av club reviews for Parenthood until now (I always thought it was a pretty straightforward melodramatic show—though a did have a few complaints). But some things that I've noticed.
I think that it's partly because (I don't have kids and won't any time soon) as much as you love your precious grandkids, you raised your kids, plain and simple, you worried about their futures.
The main thing that grates me about this show is when the kids slip out of good and bad line deliveries. Sometimes it feels like the little kids are given lines that are too long and they're trying not to trip up over words like "gubernatorial"
Exactly. These days, even if the family is pretty solidly lower middle class—if the mom is working, there's usually at least a cleaning lady that comes in.
I get the joke you're making, but it's hard to compare the crime of genocide with the crime of ironic dressing.
lmao, the imagining a cleaning lady comes in while they're not "filming" will make me feel better about a lot of shows.
Exactly the same reaction I had. 75% of it was great, and then it just got sexist. It just pissed me off. Oh honey, you go play your video games, I actually LIKE doing the dishes! That's some Ladies Home Journal from the 1950s right there.
This episode started great and then ended horribly with a lame sitcom tie-up. That freaky friday comparison was gross—dad's pitching in with domestic work is messing with the basic balance? Um, no.
Also, Cliff is the first non-Danny potential interest that I actually give a crap about. Probably because they're both no-nonsense-and-adorable-for-it
same here! didn't care for the previous episodes. Also side note really miss the BFFs from the first season.
Finally! An episode I like! The previous episodes were too hammy for me, there were no straight characters as even Danny and Mindy were off-kilter.
