The Solute: Doing Our Best to Lower Productivity!

Aw thanks. The first draft was pretty much ELLIOTT CARTER OWNS ALL YOUR ASSES repeated 1000x. I expanded that a bit in editing.

Another entry in the Apparently wallflower Needs to Write About the Entire Work of an Artist in One Single Fucking Essay category.

Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now. . .

In my headcanon, Kathryn Bigelow and Lexi Alexander pound whiskey and then fight crime together.

Yup. It's something really daring that, sadly, isn't done with enough rigor to make it land. Still, Lost was all about taking yuge narrative chances, and 5/6 of them worked.

"In all film history, Leni Riefenstahl and Kathryn Bigelow remain the only women to exhibit proficiency at kinetic filmmaking."

Lost's structure is two acts and an epilogue. You've just finished Act One and the next two seasons are Act Two. Lost does something now that's all too rare: after a game-changing moment, they change the game. The next act is radically different from the first, and two of the best seasons of television I've ever

I demand that "The Sick Bed of Culchulainn," "Gigantic," and Bach's "Ich habe Genug" (It Is Enough) be played at my funeral. Anyone who doesn't drink and sing along will be asked politely but firmly to leave.

In the words of Jason Mantzoukas, watch this and try not to jerk off.

With Xenakis, I wonder if the orchestral pieces are making you expect something (like a key progression or a melody) that Xenakis just won't do. Percussion music does a better job than any other of freeing us from expectations. You might want to try some of the chamber pieces, like Herma, Embellie, and Nomos Alpha,

The chamber works are pretty damn great too. N'Shima and Akrata 4-eva.

Like being present at the birth of the universe, that one is. That and Discreet Music are the two works that made me start composing.

Do No Harm returns, now on ABC!
