I really love how this movie keeps coming up every now and then with someone trying (succesfully in my mind) to defend it's ending or, perhaps more generally, shine a new light over it's virtues without ignoring it's more obvious flaws.

Speaking of Paul W S Anderson, I really like his sequel/remake of Death Race 2000. I think it's a lot of fun and he really makes great use of the camera when the cars are racing and getting obliterated. Plus, I consider it the best unofficial adaptation of Rock & Roll Racing and Super Mario Kart.

That's an awesome scene. I watched the movie recently with my 7 year old daughter and she loved this scene so much. And a week later, when we watched Temple of Doom she knew they were referencing this just before the bridge confrontation.
