I took that as discretion. Logan seems like he would negotiate for some personal freedoms, he was quick to manage Rory's expectations in their relationship so just cheating rather than making it part of the arrangement doesn't track for me.

Sure, it's weak. But it's understandable. As a viewer, I would find it annoying if the characters weren't realistically flawed
I saw that as his being discreet, which would be a prerequisite in most open relationships. They've always portrayed his character as being very clear about boundaries and expectations in relationships so his cheating doesn't really track. It's much more likely he negotiated some private freedoms

On second watching and further reflection, I think they nailed it. Lots of quirk and self aware references, the character arcs were realistic, Emily and Lorelei breakthroughs were earned and heartbreaking. And I loved the Rory/Logan love story. It was an unpopular choice but I think they're exciting together and their…
I'm sure broke is relative for Rory, Richard wouldn't have left her penniless. And she's had ample opportunity to quit working, she's always had her own goals.
I actually find the Logan/Rory stuff really poignant. It seems like they really love one another but realize they aren't a practical match. He would have to choose to build an entirely new life outside of his family or she would have to be a socialite wife for them to work out.
I agree that we're meant to understand Logan is in an open relationship essentially arranged by his family. As unlikeable as people find him, he is generally portrayed as very forthright about his relationships
