I can't really say caused didnt read book 1-2, so I only experienced TV Renly, but that guy was awesome and I have a hard time squaring him with Mance. Mance is a bit more whimsical, less obviously politics oriented, and a lot more casual.

I thoroughly agree with about everything you say. To me, West seems a bit brawly but would still end up an awesome Mance. In my mind, James Purefoy is the ideal Mance, just thinking back to his Rome days as Mark Antony. While I hate his turn on Fox recently, that first season of Rome embodies the irreverent attitude…
