For a while I thought he died in the pilot episode. Still not convinced, though I defer to Rowan's judgment. It seemed odd that a couch was on the beach. I'm not from a coast. Maybe that's normal? Or he was just imagining that? Or he was in heaven?
The basement was the Sopranos moment for Wilfred. The whole episode had a Sopranos feel, I thought. Melancholy. Really liked it, though.

Yeah, I think him letting her go is a safeguard of sorts. If she doesn't identify Hannibal as the Ripper then that's one more point for Hannibal not being the Ripper in Jack's eyes.
