I am guessing you have not seen the original series or the one semi decent episode of the awful follow up series Galactica 1980?
Modern Galactica took many of it's narritive beats from the original series and gave them a deeper,darker, more intelligent spin.

Caprica meanders about and has a major cock up in continuity that they rectify with a twist at the series end, but a great cast makes it worth a watch. Blood and Chrome is cool classic Galactica cylon raiders and not much else. Everything modern Battlestar tried to avoid. Pedestrian television scfi.
