He has a distinctive voice, and they have a cohesive sound, but even as a casual listener I would say that 'State of the Union', 'Life Less Frightening', 'Hero of War' and 'Make It Stop' are completely different styles.

Their earlier albums are more hardcore than anything Bad Religion ever did, to be fair. They also managed the transition to a major label without totally sucking. I am much more of a Bad Religion than RA fan, but credit where credit is due.

I suggest you revisit the aptly titled 'No Substance'.
