That part bothered me. Have the white walkers ever used ranged attacks before? They had to come up with something that would make the dragons vulnerable to the walkers, but it wasn't foreshadowed at all.

I think I detected a hint of sadness in Jack's eyes when he killed X9 in episode L. He was a much more sympathetic character than Scaramouche. Maybe Jack has spiritual beliefs when it comes to humans that makes murder more difficult.
