That's actually a really good theory, probably a better explanation then this frustrating show gave us for Jean/Diane's motives. This is one of those that had all the makings of a great show (great cast, great premise, interesting reveals) but just missed the mark.

Neve should be doing better roles then this. At this point in her career she shouldn't be doing some dopey summer blockbuster film that only a bunch teenagers will go see.

I think that is why F&G will always have that mythic quality because we can only debate what we think happened. If F&G ran 5-6 seasons, all of us would love the arc of certain characters and hate the arc of other characters so some of the charm would be lost.
