Continuing on with my journey through MST3K. This week, 'Time Chasers'! Good solid, enjoyable episode. "Geez, did somebody tape a dinner roll to his chin?".

I actually reckon those 3 are really fun.

December is made up of the Christmas episodes from our favourite sitcoms - Frasier, Cheers, etc.
Movie wise, it's always Home Alone. Always. I like to try to do the Indiana Jones trilogy either Christmas Eve or Boxing Day too.

One of Hitch's best. Like all of his best films, you could watch it again and again.

"The villains of the earlier parts of Who We Be are art critics and curators who value technique and objective artistic quality above all else"

I like the idea of tackling different time periods. There's so much of history that would make a great tv show/miniseries. And so many time periods that haven't even been touched. I hope in the future, and as the medium continues to grow, we see truly great (Deadwood like quality) shows focusing on different eras. I'd

Right, but that wasn't what you originally responded to in my post, your original post was implying there was a link between the fact that truly great artists created works described as controversial at times throughout their career, and the controversy generated by Banksy's works; and I was responding with what I

I don't have any cats. I just start reading about all the ways the universe could end and so on, until the point where I almost think I've cracked the answers to the questions of humanity…and then realise it's 5:43 in the morning, one of my balls is hanging out of my up-ridden boxer shorts and the packet noodles I ate

Eh, if you wanna go down the "this high school poetry can be just as good as Shakespeare, who said it can't?!" route, then cool, go ahead. Technically, you're correct, there's no art Jehovah who laid down his objective rules.
But in reality, we make decisions on what we think is artistically good every day, we make

Me? An aspiring artist? Nah. Not for me, I know my limitations. Art lover on the other hand? One who devotes much time to this interest? Yep.

There's a difference between using controversy and flashiness to make up for a lack of talent (which was the comment I directed at Banksy) and being a truly great artist (so, one with talent) who made controversial work.
I don't think Banksy is a truly great artist, or one with much talent…hence my comment.

Ugh.
That a useless artist and laughable 'social critic' like Banksy generates so much attention and discussion is sad (yes yes, I know I'm now adding to it). As with all flashy types, who rely on controversy and well… flashiness, instead of talent, he'll be forgotten eventually, so there's solace in that at least.

In a rush, so quick review time:

Heh, it's funny, now every time a South Park review is posted, I immediately skip the site review (because they've been terrible for ages) and go straight to the commenters to get a feeling of the quality of the episode, or at least, to see something interesting being written about it.

Im sorry, but the notion that comedy is just about the jokes landing and the art behind it can't help it is way off, at least in the sense of positing them as unrelated things. Although, it is basically what's wrong with so many comedies of the last 5-10 years (not all). Great film comedies still rely on great formal

Oh stop with this utter nonsense. Every Dunham thread involves someone implying the comments sections are usually a big thing of horribleness, and yet, every single time, there's about 1-2 per cent of crazy morons, and the rest are either fans of her work, or have justifiable reasons why they dislike her and her art.

Bashevis Singer is a master. Absolutely love his work. And Solzhenitsyn is great as well. Kudos on the three volume Gulag reading, some pretty heavy reading right there and some really brutal stuff.

I agree with you on the spare prose. At times it can be startlingly effective but then, there are other moments when I wish it were more vigorous and vibrant. Also, I think I just coming off Moby Dick has made the contrast more noticeable. Still, Lagerkvist is a writer I've been fascinated by for a while, so I look

Yeah I'm feeling pretty lucky to be going through it fresh. I love their humour and it's such a great thing to pop on when I can't sleep (I can sympathise with you, as I struggle with depression myself, as well as sleeping problems), so it's definitely coming in handy, and it's nice to be able to just smile at

Oh yes, I've seen The Killing. It's great, just expertly handled by everyone. Would make a fantastic double feature with Asphalt.
