Beautiful movie. Ullman and Andersson in particular are at their very best.
I'd love some more Curb. As do quite a few others.
The Misfits - John Huston
Anyone who would wear this shirt would be exactly the sort of person one should avoid getting in a conversation with.
Exactly, the reviewer shouldn't change his way of reviewing because someone is too lazy to learn what they're talking about.
Goddamn I loved Fallout 3 (and all of it's bugs). It still remains one of my favourite depictions of post-apocalyptic society, and one of my favourite games.
"I wish Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a film series where the three of them look into a different mystery every year."
I do wish there were more modern day directing greats that would do Shakespeare adaptations too. Great directors tackling the Greatest of writers is always a fascinating and sometimes brilliant thing, as we've seen with the likes of Polanksi and Kurosawa. And Shakespeare is so rich and compelling, that you could do so…
I'd actually rather Gilliam doesn't make Don Quixote. I have no faith in his ability to do justice to the great work. And on a separate note to the book, I don't think he has another great film in him anyway.
The highs of X-Files could definitely match a lot of Twin Peaks eps. I still think X-Files is underrated by and large. (except for the last two seasons) It's lightyears ahead of the shows it inspired, and did at times reach levels of genuine greatness and artistic creativity.
Virginia Woolf? One hit?! Come now! The Waves and To the Lighthouse are definitely equal to Mrs. Dalloway. All great though, as is her other work. One of the finest writers of the 20th century.
I just take issue with the 'without question' part.
It's a great film, but it's not the finest ever made 'without question', such definitive statements tend to be silly, as there's some incredible westerns. Also, there were a number made after Unforgiven, some of which were great.
Seems a fairly low standard for 'genius'.
- Selected Poems of Pierre Reverrdy: Great so far. New York Review of Books have some fantastic releases, especially some of their poetry and classics releases. The variety of translators (all very accomplished) is a massive plus too.
Yeah…because…you know, people can't like art that presents a different ideology or anything…nope, they can only like things they agree with.
I did, yes. Stupid bloody auto-correct.
FILMS:
What a load of bullshit. There's very, very little criticism around here towards women critics for being women. If you wanna extrapolate from the criticism they do receive (not all that different to the criticism male critics receive) that there's sexism behind it, then do so with facts, evidence and a logical…
