I fear the double feature of Daddy's Boys is what did him in.

True 80s comics would have had flexographic printing. This allowed for vibrant colors, as well as random pink splotches on various pages.

At the time, Professor X, Beast and Jean Grey assumed the other X-men to be dead after Magneto's volcano base blew up with them inside. The X-men actually survived (duh) and ended up in the Savage Land, where they do run into Sauron and Ka-Zar (not sure if Fox or Disney own the rights to him).
