I think it's more about how Boardwalk Empire presents it. You don't know who will live or whatever. There are your obvious (Gyp Rosetti, Jimmy Darmody (Jimmy who?), Commodore) and then there are some of the others that are toss ups and that increases the aforementioned dread.
