Glad to know she thinks making Carnivale was a magical experience; I think it's a magical show. Not perfect, but awesomely good - so many great actors and characters and quotable lines. And it was definitely ahead of its time.
Geddy Lee seems very Canadian in that he's a nice, humble guy. But jerk-off Objectivism is extremely un-Canadian.
I think of The Rheostatics as the most Canadian band imaginable, but I suspect they've been long forgotten by all but a devoted few who keep their name alive. The Weakerthans were pretty darn Canadian too.
I agree. . . though Cross has always been a prickly pear. And he comes off as a decent, thoughtful guy in Sean's interview.
I devoured Neat Stuff and Hate at the time, and went back to buy all the Weirdos that he edited - I still have all these comics, I just can't part with them, they really influenced my worldview. It's somewhat startling to hear he's in his late 50s, but why would it be, I'm in my late 40s now. . .Buddy Bradley's age, I…
I actually wore my NP t-shirt while camping in a public campground with my 7 year-old last weekend. I'm edgy that way. If people have a problem with it, I'll explain the leading theories about why they chose that as a band name.
It was all downhill after "Letter From An Occupant."
I prefer Neko singing upbeat pop myself. I'm probably one of the few fans whose favourite NP album is "Mass Romantic" and would rather listen to Neko's "The Virginian" on a car trip than anything else she's done since.
Young Dali: "I'm gonna grow up to be a debaser!"
Wikipedia notes that Michael Azerrad wrote in his Nirvana book that Kurt intended that "Rape Me" be "so blunt that no one could misinterpret its meaning." Way to fail once again, Mr. Cobain!
Reducing "In Utero" (and even "Rape Me" itself) to simply "rapey" is more than a bit unfair. But to each their own!
They had three releases, but like most bands with up-to-6 guitarists, 2 bassists, and 1 drummer, I suspect they were better appreciated live. For the Carl Newman completists only.
The '90s all-female Minnesota band? As opposed to the currently active band of the same name from Vancouver Island, with a Wolf Parade connection? Nah, neither of those, but thanks for playing!
The last band on your list will be Zumpano! Do I get a prize for being the first to get it right?
Succinctly and corrected stated.
Heck, I thought it was "Cat named Virtue" for years, until the comments section here set me straight last year.
"Plea" is a rockin' number, even upbeat musically and certainly not without humour, but it's strangely moving and somewhat devastating for those who recognize themselves in the song.
C30, C60, C90 Go To Hell!
Well, at least different to the degree that we don't spell pedophilia like you do.
