Do you have confirmation that he has a 6 year contract? Where are you getting this number from? Just because it's standard doesn't mean it's true in his case. (See Josh Charles's original 4 season contract that was extended to 15 episodes for season 5).

I think they had Danny sleep with other women so fast so that Mindy didn't come as hasty or insensitive by moving on herself. They wanted single mom dating Mindy and by having Danny "go there" first Mindy looks better in comparison.

I feel the same way.

This is why I think people jump to the vindictive theory because there is no reason to go to such an extreme. If they were still interested in truly exploring this dynamic and valuing the best dramatic actor on the show, rather than glossing over the therapy sessions in a quick montage they could have dedicated at

It made it super obvious when certain scenes were filmed. Looks like the Danny and Mindy stuff in the bedroom was filmed post lip injections, which distracted majorly from what could have been a nice piece of acting. Shame. By making her face immobile she is taking away one of her best talents as a performer:

Exactly

I keep seeing this so I wonder if Chloe Sevigny feels more comfortable with being on the show? She was really upset with her performance the first time (I thought she was fine).

I thought Annette, the mother he adores and thinks can do no wrong, watching Leo had solved this problem.

I wonder if he's up for contract negotiation and they are setting up the possibility. I remember Josh Charles did not have the standard 7 year contract, he had a 4 year one. He wasn't planning to return to Good Wife season 5 but they negotiated less episodes and some directing slots.

Also Hulu is the only streaming service that I'm aware of that releases episodes on a weekly basis for their original content. Did Yahoo do the same with Community?

Also the show was about him becoming less jerky as Mindy reached out to him. Pilot Danny was an ass. End of season 1 Danny was a dimensional character who could be an ass but cared about Mindy when it fundamentally mattered and respected her opinion.

Effective use of flashback, it was able to conceal a lot of the shoddy and terrible writing of the current plot. We didn't have to continue with the characters in their present day, and the memories were able to telegraph Mindy's decision. Convenient, but effective.

Nailed it.

Exactly. He seems like the type to be more interested in maintaining the integrity of the character than requesting a more dramatic tone. I don't mean that the character always has been written as "good" but the foundation and continuity of the character is in tact. And for Danny, it most certainly is not.

Even if he requested more dramatic scenes, the writing for his character has been terrible. They basically disregarded major build up for the character. His previous work of making Danny dimensional is now useless.

On a somewhat separate note and not specifically about Mindy Project - am I the only one who is sick of shows using the overdone Christmas Carol plot?

"Fairly large" is stretching it. I would welcome more scenes with Tamra and Mindy bonding or talking but they are rare. The reason I mentioned those guest stars is they were brought in to serve that temporary function. When you say pretty much all the women cast "just aren't funny" it calls into question whether it's

It's not just about having female characters but a woman Mindy can talk to rather than have to get all of her advice or schooled by men.

The issue with no female friends is that it basically is all about mansplaining to her. Gwen was a stabilizing and grounding force for Mindy's flighty and ridiculous attitudes. Danny became her sounding board during her dating life prior to their relationship. So now, when Danny isn't the one criticizing and lecturing

You're measuring success on fame or role prominence when I don't think that is priority for Chris Messina. If anything, his press shy attitude is about avoiding any type of celebrity so he can be more convincing as an actor.
